Vietnam \u2013 An Intense Asian Experience<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Most people have probably seen the landscapes of Vietnam as the backdrop to countless war movies\u2014but nothing and no one can truly prepare you for that extraordinary moment when you witness Vietnam\u2019s breathtaking beauty in real life. The lush green of the Mekong Delta, the surreal scenery of Halong Bay\u2014straight out of a movie like Avatar<\/em>\u2014and the endless swarm of scooters in Hanoi. It\u2019s a country that overwhelms all the senses.<\/p>\n

And let\u2019s not forget the delicious food, mostly prepared fresh and bursting with flavor. Vietnam has so much to offer and somehow manages to surprise travelers day after day. But not everything is picture-perfect: reminders of hardship are scattered across the country in the form of relics, museums, and eyewitness accounts. Vietnam has suffered deeply and carries a dark past\u2014colonization, communism, war, and poverty have shaped the nation for decades. That\u2019s why travelers often end up either falling in love with Vietnam\u2014or finding it too intense to handle.<\/p>\n

\nDespite that past, I grew to love the country. Maybe I was just lucky, but on my journey, every Vietnamese person I met was incredibly friendly and always willing to help. Even though the lack of language skills often seemed to be a barrier to communication, we managed to connect through gestures and sign language. Most people there unfortunately don\u2019t speak English. The optimism of the people and the joy on their faces \u2014 even though many of them have so little \u2014 is truly unique and made me feel deeply humbled. It reminded me how fortunate we are in Germany. I learned a lot \u2014 and still had so much fun along the way.<\/p>\n
