Where does the name “Mister UniQue” come from?

“What did you just say? Mister… Uni… Que?”
Yep, that’s usually the moment when the name of my page first hits people like a riddle. Their eyes widen, the classic “Excuse me?” isn’t far behind – and then, almost in slow motion, the name gets repeated: “M…i…s…t…e…r…U…n…i…Q…u…e.” And inevitably comes the question: “How did you come up with that?”

Well, I’ve had enough of those puzzled looks, and I’ve finally decided to reveal the mystery once and for all – so here comes the answer!

From Facebook to a World of Its Own

The name “Mister UniQue” has its roots in a time that many of us still associate with the year 2004. That’s when Facebook first launched – back then still called “thefacebook.com” – and it set a whole new standard for online communities. In the beginning, the site was only accessible to U.S. college students. The German masses had no idea about the hype that was just starting to roll in from across the Atlantic.

At the time, I was on a mission with two friends. Inspired by an exclusive community from Denmark, we wanted to create something similar here in Germany. Our idea was simple: a platform where members of the opposite sex had three days to vote on whether a new user was allowed in or not. More than 75% approval – and the chosen one was in. Sounds crazy? It was! But it had its own charm. So we got to work and had the site developed in Romania. In 2006, attractivepeople.de went live – and it was the beginning of one wild ride.

“attractivepeople.de” is live!

It was long before the German version of Facebook launched (which only came in 2008) and right in the middle of the StudiVZ boom. But we wanted more. We wanted to be exclusive – only those who truly fit in were allowed to join. A real community that celebrated together and turned nights into days in cities like Düsseldorf, Karlsruhe, and Hanover.

But as life goes, not everything runs smoothly. The owners got into a dispute, which eventually led to us losing sight of “attractivepeople” – and by 2008, the platform was history.

Where one chapter ends, another begins!

But as the saying goes: where one chapter ends, another begins. I still believed in the concept and was determined to bring it back to life. A new team, a new name. And that name had to be something special – just like the project it was meant to represent.

2010 – The “UniQue Society” is born!

In 2010, the time had finally come: the “UniQue Society” came to life. Once again, I was the designer, the architect — and the visionary. But life had other plans and kept us on our toes: the team wasn’t always on the same wavelength, which ultimately caused the project to falter. Still, it was during this time that the name was born — a name that now clings to me like a second skin.

Back then, I also launched the “Mister UniQue’s Society Blog” to keep the community up to date and generate a bit of attention for the site. When the project eventually failed, the name “Mister UniQue” simply stuck. The “Society” part was dropped — and that’s how my blog’s name became the one I still carry to this day.

“Mister UniQue’s Society Blog”

“Mister UniQue” doesn’t just remind me of an exciting time – it also reminds me how important it is to believe in your dreams. The name stands for everything I’ve experienced – the highs and the lows. But it’s exactly that mix that makes life so unique. Even though not everything went smoothly, I met many amazing people and formed friendships that still last to this day. And that thought never fails to make me smile.

I am “Mister UniQue” – and I live by the motto: “Be UniQue – Live Your Dreams!”
